What are self-ligating braces?

Self Ligating Brackets have small doors in each bracket, and they do not need to be tied with traditional elastic ties. By eliminating the elastic ties around the bracket/wire interface, there is virtually no friction when teeth move. Typically, this allows clinician to move teeth faster, with more efficiency, and oftentimes with less discomfort. Also, since the elastic ties are typically where the plaque accumulates, patients show better oral hygiene.
